ebooks AND AUDIOBOOKS

Our catalog of eBooks and audiobooks is separate from our catalog of books and media. To search our catalog of eBooks and audiobooks on your computer, simply visit www.bethpagelibrary.info/ebooks and search by title or author by using the search box on the top of the page. If you are using the Libby app on your portable device, simply click “Search the catalog...” and search by title or author.
eBooks and audiobooks are treated the same way as their physical counterparts, in that once an item is checked out to a patron it will be unavailable to other patrons. Once the loan period for an eBook or audiobook is up, it will automatically be removed from your device.
The loan period is 14 days for both eBooks and audiobooks.
Nassau Digital Doorway allows you to check out up to six eBooks and/or audiobooks at one time.
If you’d like to return a title before the 14 day period, you can do so by following these steps, unless you have forwarded the title to your Kindle device, the Overdrive desktop app, or Adobe Digital Editions (please see separate sections for those returns):
  1. Visit www.bethpagelibrary.info/ebooks.
  2. Log in to your account by clicking “Sign In,” selecting your library from the dropdown menu, and filling in your library card number in the appropriate form. Click Sign In.
  3. Click on the “My Account” dropdown menu and then click on “Loans.”
  4. Find the title you would like to return.
  5. Click on the “Return” button below the title you wish to return (under the image and star rating).
  6. This will bring up a confirmation window. If you are sure you want to return the title, click “Return Title.”
The title has now been returned and removed from your account.
If you’d like to return a title before the 14 day period, you can do so through the Libby app by following these steps, unless you have forwarded the title to your Kindle device, the Overdrive desktop app, or Adobe Digital Editions (please see separate sections for those returns):

  2. On the bottom of the app, click “Shelf.”
  3. Scroll until you find the title you’d like to return, and then click on the book cover.
  4. Select “Return Title to Library.”
  5. This will bring you to a confirmation page. Review the information, and if you are sure you want to return the selected item, click “Return!”

If you’d like to return a title before the 14 day period but have already sent it to your Kindle, you can do so by following these steps:
  1. Visit Amazon.com and hover over “Hello, Sign In. Account & Lists.” Click “Sign In.”
  2. Log in to your Amazon account by filling in the email and password forms and clicking “Sign In.”
  3. Hover over “Accounts & Lists” again and scroll down to “Your Content and Devices.” Click on this link.
  4. This will bring you to a page that shows the content on your devices. Stay in the “Your Content” tab and scroll until you find the title you’d like to return (items borrowed from a library should have an orange “Borrowed” label next to the title).
  5. Once you have found the title you’d like to return, click the box directly next to the title’s name (the one with the three dots in it).
  6. Scroll over to the column next to the book cover and select “Return this book.”
  7. A confirmation window will pop up. Please review the information to make sure it is correct, and, if you are returning the correct title, confirm by clicking “Yes.”
You should receive a confirmation that the title has been returned, and it should be removed from your content list at this time. Be sure to sign out of your Amazon account when you are finished.
Once you find the eBook or audiobook you want to borrow, you can check its availability. If it says “Borrow,” it is available immediately for download. If it says “Wait List,” it is currently unavailable but you can place a hold on the book and you will receive an email once your name is reached on the wait list.
Most devices are compatible with Nassau Digital Doorway. For a full listing, please check www.overdrive.com/resources/drc.
While most devices are compatible with Nassau Digital Doorway, not every eBook or audiobook is compatible with every device. To check whether a specific title is compatible with your device, simply:
  1. Visit www.bethpagelibrary.info/ebooks.
  2. Log in to your account by clicking “Sign In,” selecting your library from the dropdown menu, and filling in your library card number in the appropriate form. Click Sign In.

  5. Check the column on the right-hand side for “Formats.” This will list all the formats/devices the specific title supports.
If you are using your computer to read or listen to a book and plan on using your web browser, there is no setup. All you have to do is borrow the book and you can read or listen directly through the Nassau Digital Doorway website (to do this, you must log in to the website whenever you want to access the title).

If you plan on accessing your eBook or audiobook on the computer locally (without logging on to Nassau Digital Doorway), you must download either the Overdrive app (for audiobooks) or Adobe Digital Editions (for eBooks) onto your computer. Both are a one-time installation.

If you are downloading a title directly to a portable device through the Libby app, there is no required setup other than downloading and setting up the app. This is a one-time setup.

If you choose to use more than one device, you must set up each device individually. See below for instructions for each device.

Patrons who require large print materials due to a visual or physical disability are eligible for free delivery by the United States Postal Service. The Bethpage Public Library will pay for the postage for the LibraryDirect patrons who are not eligible for free delivery.
LibraryDirect is pleased to offer books in both regular and large print. We hope to expand the program in the future to include other non-book materials such as audiobooks. In addition, the Long Island Talking Book Library offers delivery of recorded books. Please call the Reference Desk at 516-931-3907 for an application.
Bestsellers are in great demand. Due to the time involved in mailing books to you and getting them back, we can include only 28 day circulating materials in the program at this time.
The Bethpage Post Office requires a copy of the Certification of Eligibility for Free Postal Matter to be kept on file. At the library, we maintain a record of books we have sent to our LibraryDirect patrons in order to avoid duplication. All of these records are kept confidential.
